WILpower Frequently Asked Questions

Is WILpower for me?

WILpower is an effective professional development program for women professionals who have at least four years of experience and want to accelerate their leadership profile, potential and impact; get to know others with similar aspirations; and build their network in a fun and supportive environment.  The program includes women from many different fields with different levels of experience – see the WILpower Overview Brochure for more information.

What does WILpower cost?

The WILpower program costs $650 per participant for a full year of professional development programming. This equates to over 30 hours of dynamic speaker-led workshops, small discussion groups, content-rich events, practical seminars, and networking events.

A single hour of quality career coaching could run $250-$500, so this pricing for a year-long professional development program is a tremendous discount relative to value offered.  We can charge this low amount thanks to our all-volunteer Board and our generous speakers who reduce their fees to support our important mission.

Are there any subsidies or scholarships available to lower the cost of the WILpower program?

Despite the low standard pricing for the WILpower program, the LWT Board recognizes that this amount may be difficult for some. For this reason, we set aside a number of seats at $250 per participant for unemployed women, and women in nonprofit and government roles.  To apply for a subsidized seat for WILpower 2021, please complete this subsidized seat application form.

What’s expected of me?

Each morning workshop session lasts for two hours (from 8 – 10 am).  You should sign onto the online virtual session between 7:45 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. so that you can check your technology and have a chance to chat with your cohort leader and your fellow WILpower women better – and maybe even meet the speaker.

Cohort leads email the pre-work for each workshop will be emailed out a few days prior to each session. Pre-work can be a short series of questions, or an article or video selected by the speaker to get you thinking about the workshop topic. Doing the pre-work enables you to better understand, and to contribute more effectively to discussions, so you get the most out of them. You should also plan on dedicating time between sessions to put your new skills and approaches into practice.

To get the absolute most out of the WILpower program, we strongly encourage you to participate in the WILpower Rings program. Our Ring leaders are WILpower grads who have returned to volunteer because they love the program. They form Rings to give you a space to come together with other WILpower women to discuss the lessons learned from the sessions, expand your network and practice your new skills in a safe place. All 2021 WILpower participants  will be assigned a local Ring to support their WILpower journey.

As with any new adventure, the more you put into the program, the more you will get out of it!

Can I attend some but not all workshops?

The LWT Board designs the WILpower workshops to build upon each other, so we encourage you to attend each workshop in order to get the most out of the program. Of course, we understand if external demands cause you to miss an occasional session. If you must miss a session, reach out to your cohort lead, and she can help you attend a session at one of the other cities in the WILpower footprint.

Can I register late if I missed the January application deadline?

You will get the most value out of the WILpower program if you participate from the very beginning.  We do allow late registrations in limited circumstances, subject to case-by-case review and space availability.

How can I convince my employer to sponsor my WILpower program participation?

We find that employers are very receptive to requests to sponsor their high-achieving women into professional development programs like WILpower. Some organizations may not offer internal development programs, so the WILpower program is a perfect supplement to the company’s goals of developing and supporting its women.

We have developed a sample e-mail that you can customize to request that your employer sponsor you all or part of the WILpower registration fees.

You may also want to share the LWT WILpower Overview brochure, which provides more background information.

How does the LWT Board select participants ? What are my chances to get in the WILpower program?

Applications are reviewed to determine whether the applicant generally fits the program’s target profile. Your chances of acceptance are greatest if you register early for the WILpower program, as applications are considered on a rolling basis.

How do I pay for the WILpower program?

We accept credit card payment through the registration pages.  If you need to use a different method of payment including PayPal, please contact the WILpower Program Director.

What is your policy on refunds?
